History and achievements
In 1902 Norwich City Football club was established by a group of friends that intended to play football at amateur level yet three years later Norwich managed to receive professional status. The nickname of the club is the Canaries and it dates back to 1907 when breeding and keeping of these birds was popular in the city. A yellow canary is depicted on the club’s badge.
Carrow Road is the home stadium of the team since 1935 and it has a capacity of 27,000 seats. The biggest victory of the team was 10–2 win over Coventry City in 1934.
At the early days of its history the team played in Division Three and Division Four. It was not until 1962 that under the management of Ron Ashman Norwich claimed their first League Cup beating Sunderland 1–0. Norwich fans had been waiting till 1972 as the team finally reached the top level of English football for the first time. For several years the club made attempts to stay in the mid-table of Division One but was struggling mostly for securing the place in the league.
The 1984/1985 season brought mixed fortunes to the club as it was relegated from the top flight although reached the League Cup final and won the title.
In the season 2011/2012 Norwich played in the Premier League and finished in the mid-position.
In 2014 Norwich City were relegated from the top flight.
