NK Olimpija Ljubljana is a Slovenian side from Ljubljana founded in 2005.
It’s a tidbit that he club consider themselves the successors of former four-time Slovenian champions Olimpija who were disbanded in 2005 due to financial difficulties. But current Olimpija is a fully distinct and separate club and is often criticized for claiming the honors of the dissolved club as their own.
Olimpija embarked on their way from the lowest 5th division of Slovenian football league system. However, the team gradually climbed up the football pyramid from season to season reaching the Slovenian PrvaLiga in the 2009/10 campaign. They finished fourth in their first and second season in the top flight, and in the 2011/12 campaign Olimpija became the league runners. The club’s midfielder Dare Vršič established himself as the PrvaLiga top scorer with 22 goals in the season. Following prominent results in the domestic league, the club got theirs spot in the UEFA Europa League.
Olimpija players wear green and white kits. They play their home matches at Stožice Stadium which can host up to 16,038 people. The team is strongly supported by a fan group called the Green Dragons.
