Athletic Club Omonia Nicosia is a football club in Cyprus, located in the capital, Nicosia. The team was formed in 1948, when they separated from APOEL and became an independent team. In 1953 Omonia was accepted by Cyprus Football Association and began to compete in the First Division.
Its first league title came in the 1960/61 season and the second one was in 1965/66. 1970s was a successful period for Omonia as they won the league title in 1972 and since 1974 they won six consecutive championships. In that decade the team proved themselves as a powerhouse in Cyprus. The following decade they claimed seven league titles, but since 1993 Omonia had eight winless seasons.
All in all between 1961 and 2010 Omonia won 20 Cyprus First Division titles. In 1965 they claimed their first Cypriot Cup win and till 2012 they were the domestic cup holders for 14 times.
Their home ground is GSP Stadium, which has a capacity of 22,859 seats. The stadium is shared between Omonia, APOEL and Olympiakos.
