NK Osijek is a Croatian football club located in Osijek. The side currently competes in the Prva HNL.
NK Osijek was born on February 2, 1947 out of the merger of NK Slavonija and NK Bratstvo. In 1950 and 1952 the club attempted to gain entry into the Yugoslav First League but the game’s authorities denied its bid. In 1953 Osijek’s efforts were finally rewarded. The club’s first recorded game took place against Borac. In 1959 the White-blues’ form dipped dramatically and the club was relegated to the second division. The side had to wait 19 years for a return. Osijek’s maiden season in the Prva HNL saw the club finish third. In 1999 the team claimed the Croatian Cup triumph. In the year of 2000 the White-blues had a real chance to win the domestic championship but a disastrous run of poor games at the end of the season resulted only in a third-place finish.
The club’s most notable striker is Davor Šuker who won the 1998 World Cup Golden Boot award.
Osijek’s home matches are staged at Stadion Gradski vrt.
