History and achievements
Calcio Padova is an Italian football club currently competing in Serie B. It was founded in 1910.
With the inception of the current football league system in 1929, the team found themselves in the top-flight Serie A. However, they didn’t shape well and faced relegation already after the debut season in the top league. Padova’s golden age came in the mid 1950s when they made a brilliant 3d place finish in 1957/58 Serie A and established themselves as one of the league’s major forces.
In the 1960s, the club’s success changed to a downturn as they lost their place in the top flight and dropped down to Serie B. However, they showed splendid results in the 1966/67 Coppa Italia finishing the tournament as runners-up after champions Milan. In the 1970 the things came even worse as Padova slipped to the third and then to the fourth division.
The 1980s saw the team recuperating their lost positions. In the 1982/83 season, Padova won back their ticket to Serie B and recorded the second place finish in the Anglo-Italian Cup. In 1994, the club returned to Serie A after 32 years of absence. In between 1996 and 2009, the team meandered through the lower Italian leagues. In the 2009/10 season, they returned to Serie B and compete there to date.
Such notable players as Alessandro Del Piero, Kurt Hamrin, Walter Zenga, Sergio Brighenti, Giuseppe Galderisi and others had their glorious spells at Padova. The team wear red and white uniforms and play their home matches at Stadio Euganeo that can hold up to 32,336 people.
