Pandurii Târgu Jiu is a football club in Romania. It is located in Târgu Jiu, Gorj county. The club is a result of the merger of Flacăra-Unirea and CIL Târgu-Jiu, which happened in 1962. They began to compete in the fourth division and in a season won promotion to Divizia C. The team advanced further to Divizia B in the 1976/77 season but didn’t stay there for long and faced relegation.
Till the beginning of 2000s Pandurii had mixed success relegating to Divizia C and then advancing to Divizia B. Between 2000 and 2004 they competed in the second division and in 2004 they were Liga II runners-up thus earned promotion to the top division.
Pandurii finished their first Divizia A season on the fifteenth position and were supposed to relegate but Sportul Studenţesc, which was the closest team above Pandurii, was deprived of the promotion and Pandurii advanced to the top flight. In the 2006/07 season the team was eleventh and since then they’ve competed in the top division, though in 2010 they hardly avoided relegation, being below the relegation line, at the expense of Internaţional Curtea de Argeş, which withdrew. In 2011/12 Pandurii were seventh in the league.
Tudor Vladimirescu is the team’s home ground and has a capacity of 9,200.
