Fotbal Club Petrolul Ploiești is a football club in Romania, located in Ploiești, Prahova County. The team was a result of the merger of Triumf București and Romcomit București, which happened in 1924. Initially the team was named Juventus București. Throughout its history the team either competed in the Divizia A or dropped down and played in lower divisions. Between 1933 and 1940, 1946 and 1952 they played in the Liga I.
The team’s name was changed several times, in 1947 its initial name was changed to Distribuţia București, and then every season it was given a new name: Competrol București, Petrolul București, Partizanul București and Flacăra București. In 1952 the club was moved to Ploiești and its name was changed to Flacăra Ploiești, ant then to Energia Ploiești. Between 1957 and 1992 the team’s name was Petrolul Ploiești. After that for one season it was FC Ploiești and then the team again was given the name of Petrolul Ploiești.
The team was the league title winner in 1929/30, 1957/58, 1958/59, 1965/66, they won the Romanian Cup titles in 1962/63 and 1994/95.
In recent years Petrolul Ploiești compete in the Liga I or Liga II. In 2002/03 they advanced to the top division but relegated the in a season. The following promotion was after the 2010/11 season when the team won Liga II.
Their home round is Ilie Oană, which has a capacity of 15,500.
