Platanias FC is a Greek football club founded in 1931 in the city of Platanias on the island of Crete. The club began to carve out the name for itself from the lowest Greek leagues. At the end of the 2000s, their moderate success changed to a rise as the team advanced to the Football League 2 in 2009. Already in the 2010/11 season, they finished 5th in the third tier and broke into the Football League. The 2011/12 campaign brought Platanias true glory as they won the Football League promotion play-offs and fought their way to the top tier. So in the 2012/13 season, the club began their first ever run into the Superleague.
Platanias holds their home matches at the 3,700 seater Perivolia Municipal Stadium.
