Ponte Preta is a professional football team from Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. The club is nicknamed Macaca.
On August 11, 1900 two students founded a new soccer club and called it Associação Atlética Ponte Preta. The club`s history saw many ups-and-downs as the team performed inconsistently. In 1969 Ponte Preta lifted its first and solitary title, as the club sealed the Campeonato Paulista Série A2. Macaca was regarded as the hot favourite for the 1977 Campeonato Paulista but the team suffered a controversial defeat against Corinthians in the final. In 2011 Ponte Preta won promotion to the Série A after finishing the Série B in the 3rd place. In 2013 the club was relegated from the top flight.
Black and white is the official club colours. The Estádio Majestoso hosts Ponte Preta’s home matches. It has seating for about 20,000 supporters.
