Club de Fútbol Puebla is a football club in Mexico located in Puebla. The club was founded by English immigrant in 1904. The professional era for the team began in 1944, when on 28 March the club began to compete in Mexican Primera División. Their first match was in May 1944 at the Copa México tournament. The team’s league debut was in August 1944. The 1944/45 league championship Puebla finished runners-up and that season they won their first Copa México title. The following Copa México success was in 1953. In the mid-1950s the club faced economic problems and was folded. They returned to the second division thus returning to the professional football in 1964 and managed to promote to the top flight in 1970.
Puebla won their first ever league title in the 1982/83 campaign, when they overwhelmed Guadalajara on penalty shootout. In the 1987/88 season they won Copa México and their second league title and one more Copa México title came in 1989/90. Winning the Copa Mexico and the League Cup the team was given Campeonísimo title. In 1991 Puebla won CONCACAF Champions’ Cup.
By the end of the Clausura in 2005 they faced relegation to Ascenso MX (or Primera A) but having won the Apertura 2005 and 2006 Puebla returned to the top flight.
Puebla is nicknamed Los Camoteros or La Franja. Their home stadium is Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla. Its capacity is 42,684.
