FK Qarabağ is an Azerbaijani football team from Agdam founded in 1951.
The team claimed their first silverwares during the Soviet era when they won the USSR Azerbaijan League titles in 1988 and 1990 and the USSR Azerbaijan Cup in 1990. In 1992, the Azerbaijan Premier League was founded and Qarabağ became its regular participant since then. It’s a tidbit that along with Neftchi Baku and Turan Tovuz, Qarabağ played in all Premier League seasons so far. In 1993, they were crowned Premier League champions and clinched the Azerbaijani Cup victory as well. Qarabağ welcomed another two cups to their trophy cabinet in the 2005/06 and 2008/09 seasons.
Qarabağ met with much success on the international scene. They graced Azerbaijan by recording the biggest winning margin in Europe beating FK Metalurg Skopje 4-1 and reaching the UEFA Europa League play-off round in 2009 and 2010. It was to Gurban Gurbanov who coached the team in that period that Qarabağ achieved much European progress.
The team players are often nicknamed the Horsemen after the Karabakh horse depicted on their club emblem. They play their home matches at Guzanli Olympic Complex Stadium which can host up to 2,000 spectators.
