Querétaro Fútbol Club (Gallos Blancos de Querétaro) is a Mexican football club located in Querétaro. In 1950 Club Querétaro A.C. joined newly founded Segunda División along with Irapuato, Zacatepec, Morelia, La Piedad and Toluca. Later they team was nicknamed Gallos Blancos.
In mid-1970s the team Estudiantes was founded. In 1977 they were bought together with Querétaro by Armando Presa and a merged team was named Atletas Campesinos. That was a strong and promising team and finally in 1980 they won promotion from Segunda División.
In the first half of 1980s the team was changed into the UAQ Gallos Blancos, which was the team of the Autonomous University of Querétaro. In 1987 the team reached the final of Segunda División but had an accident on their way to Santiago de Querétaro, when several players died. In mid-1980s the team was managed by one of the most influential TV broadcasters in Mexico and was named Cobras de Querétaro. In 1986 they competed in the Primera División but returned back to Segunda at the end of the season.
In 1988 Club Querétaro was founded. It became the UAQ Gallos Blancos’ rival competing in the Second Division. These teams merged in 1998 and up to 2002 played under the name of Gallos Blancos de Querétaro.
In 2002 CF La Piedad moved from the city of La Piedad to Santiago de Querétaro. The team played under the name Querétaro F.C. In 2004 the football federation changed the number of teams competing in the Primera División from twenty to eighteen and one of the two teams, which were in the worst financial situation, was Querétaro. But that year Querétaro F.C. obtained the franchise of Zacatepec, a Primera A defunct team. In 2005 and 2006 the team won the Primera División A Clausura tournaments and got promotion to the top flight, but in 2007 they faced relegation again. In 2008/09 the team was the Promotion playoff winner thus earned promotion.
The team’s home ground is La Corregidora stadium located in Santiago de Querétaro. Its capacity is of 45,547.
