Recreativo is a football club from the city of Huelva. The team was founded on 23 December 1899 and it is the oldest team in the country. It was organized by two Scottish doctors Alexander Mackay and Robert Russell Ross in order to give recreation to the miners from the Rio Tinto mines.
In the early 1900s Recreativo won the Andalusia tournament several times. The first run in the second division started in 1940, yet it took the club more than 30 years for reaching the top flight.
The last campaign in La Liga saw the team stay in the top tier only for a season, but in the season 2002/2003 Recre finally managed to progress to the final of the domestic Cup, where they lost to Mallorca 0–3. The highest finish in the top tier is the eighth place in the season 2006/2007
Nuevo Colombino is the home ground of the team with a capacity of 21,600.
The team’s nicknmaes are Recre and El Decano (The Dean).
