Rosenborg Ballklub is a Norwegian football side located in Trondheim. It currently performs in Tippeligaen. RBK is the most successful side in the history of Norwegian football.
The club was originally created by a group of young men on May 19, 1917. Initially, it bore the name of Sportsklubben Odd. On October 26, 1928 the team was renamed to Rosenborg Ballklub. RBK was promoted to the top flight for the first time in 1960. That year also saw the club deliver its first silverware as the side lifted the Norwegian Cup. In 1964 the Troll Kids sustained the success of that year. In 1964 Rosenborg departed from the elite division. Three years later the club made a welcome return. Moreover, the team were crowned league champions for the first ever time. In 1971 RBK surged to a spectacular double, winning the league and the cup. However, the era in the sun came to an end. Rosenborg went into decline and dropped into the second tier in 1977 but fought back, returning to Tippeligaen in 1979. In 1985 the league title returned to the Troll Kids after 17 titleless years.
In the 1990s Rosenborg continued to rack up trophies. In 1995 the club qualified for the Champions League. The 1996/1997 campaign saw the side involved in the Champions League campaign up to the quarter-final where RBK was knocked out by Juventus. From 1992 to 2004 the club won 14 back-to-back league titles.
In 2005 Rosenborg had perhaps its least memorable season ever as the club hardly managed to climb out of the relegation zone. With the arrival of Erik Hamrén as the team’s new head coach, RBK got back on track. In 2009 and 2010 the Troll Kids were crowned Tippeligaen champions. The club’s total comprises 22 league titles and 9 Norwegian Cups.
Rosenborg’s home kit features white shirts and black shorts with white socks. Lerkendal Stadion is the club’s home ground, which has seating for 21,166 spectators.
