Ross County is a Scottish football club from Ross-shire. The team was created in 1929 when Dingwall Thistle and Dingwall Victoria United merged to form a new side. The club started competing in the Highland League in 1929.
The club’s history boasts three titles of the league (1967, 1991 and 1992). Ross County is also known as a strong Cup contender. The last major trophy the team clinched was the 2006 Scottish Challenge Cup. The team played in the final of the 2010 Scottish Cup, but was defeated by Dundee United 0 – 3.
The club is nicknamed the Staggies and the name refers to one of the team’s symbols Stag’s Head. It was taken from the regimental badge of the Seaforth Highlanders, the military unit in which many local residents served.
