Rotor Volgograd was a football club in Russia, based in Volgograd. The history of football in the city goes back to the beginning of the XX century and the football club Traktorostroitel was founded in 1929. Since 1936 they began to compete in the Soviet championship and in 1939 they finished fourth, which was their best result in the following 54 years.
In 1991 Rotor won the USSR Second Division and entered newly formed Russian Premier League. In 1993 and 1997 the team was Russian Top Division runners-up but in 2004 Rotor was relegated from the top flight and was eliminated from the competition.
In 2006 Rotor reserve team got the name of Rotor and then was renamed to FC Volgograd. In 2010 the club’s name was changed to FC Rotor Volgograd. In 2011/12 they were promoted to the Russian First Division (the second tier).
In 2014 Rotor left FNL due to financial difficulties.
