Rudar Velenje is a Slovenian football team from the town of Velenje founded in 1948.
At the early stages of their career the club competed in lower Yugoslavian leagues. After Slovenia got independence in 1991, they began to play in the newly established Slovenian PrvaLiga. For the first seven seasons Rudar finished mostly in the mid-table mediocrity. In the 1998/99 and 1999/2000 seasons, they recorded their ever best third-place finishes in the top flight. Moreover, the club claimed their first major silverware in the shape of the Slovenian Cup in 1998. But in the 2002/03 campaign, the team showed poor league results and dropped down to the Slovenian Second League where they spent four seasons. In the 2008/09 season, Rudar bounced back to the PrvaLiga in style as they finished third in the table.
Rudar players are often nicknamed the Miners. They play their home games at Ob Jezeru City Stadium which can hold up to 2,500 spectators.
