Sanfrecce Hiroshima is a Japanese football club based in Hiroshima. The team was founded in 1938. Initially it was named Toyo Kogyo Syukyu Club, and in 1981 it was renamed into Mazda Soccer Club. After the foundation of the J. League in 1992 they became Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
The team’s best result in J. League was in 1994 when they finished runner-up. Since then Sanfrecce Hiroshima twice were relegated. In 2009 they finished the J. League fourth and in 2010 they reached the final of the J. League Cup, qualified for the Asian Champions League but eventually were knocked out on the group stage.
Their home stadium is Hiroshima Big Arch, its capacity is 50,000.
