Sassuolo Calcio is a football club founded in 1922 in Sassuolo.
The team began their way in the lowest divisions of Italian football system. In 2006, they made their first run into Serie C1. In the summer 2007, the current coach of giant AC Milan Massimiliano Allegri took over the coaching reins at Sassuolo. The club had a historic 2007/08 campaign under the coach as they won Serie C1 and broke into the second division for the first time ever.
In the 2008/09 campaign, Allegri left for Cagliari but Sassuolo men were not all adrift, in contrary, they made a good Serie B start finishing 7th in the league. The next season Sassuolo was a footstep away from promotion but lost a promotion play-off match to Torino. In the 2011/12 campaign, the team finished third in the table but again lost ground in the play-offs defeated by Sampdoria this time. Sassuolo reinforced their hopes to break into the top flight and had a stunning 2012/13 campaign clinching the championship of the Serie B and getting direct promotion to Serie A for the first time.
The team wear green and black colors similar to these of the English side Lancaster Rovers FC. Their home matches are played at the 21,151-seater Stadio Alberto Braglia in Modena.
