Shakhter is a Kazakh football club from Karagandy that was established in 1958.
The team is one of the founding members of the Kazakhstan Premier League. During the 1990s the side regularly finished at the top of the league, but did not manage to claim any major silverware, finishing third in the seaon 1994/1995 and fourth in the following campaign.
In the early 2000s Shakhter sank to the bottom of the table, yet in the season 2006/2006 the downturn changed to a rise and the team finished third. The most fruitful spell in the club’s history started in the season 2010/2011 as they tasted the honors of the League, repeating the success the following season.
The club’s history boasts the 1962 Soviet First League title and the 2013 Kazakhstan Super Cup.
The home facility of the team is Shakhtyor Stadium that can sit up to 19,000.
The club’s nickname is the Miners. The chairman is Yerden Khalilin.
