SK Sigma Olomouc is a football club in the Czech Republic founded in 1919. Initially the club was named Hejcin Olomouc and after the merger with Sokol in 1949 they were renamed to Sokol MŽ Olomouc. In 1953 the club merged with Red Star Olomouc and its name was changed to DSO Baník MŹ Olomouc. Since then the name was changed several times before the team finally became SK Sigma Olomouc in 1996.
During fifty years the squad competed in the lower divisions and in 1977 they promoted to the First National League. In 1982 they advanced to the top flight but didn’t manage to remain here the following season due to the lack of experience. Under the management of Karel Brückner Sigma promoted and became a regular member of the top division.
In 1991, 1992, 1998, 2001 and 2004 Sigma was third in the Czech top football league, Gambrinus liga. In 1996 they were league runners-up. In 2012 they won the Czech Republic Football Cup and Czech Republic Football Supercup.
In the 1991/92 season Sigma reached the quarterfinal of the UEFA Cup where they lost to Real Madrid. That’s their best achievement in Europe so far. In 2000/01 the team was runner-up in the Intertoto Cup.
Andrův stadion is the team’s home ground. It has a capacity of 12,566 spectators.
