The Sport Club do Recife is a Brazilian football team located in Recife, Pernambuco.
On May 13, 1905 a meeting was convened to form a new club. Recife`s first fixture was played the same year. Eleven years later the club lifted its first title as the team won the Pernambuco state championship. Sport Recife has won the Campeonato Pernambucano on 39 occasions so far.
In 1987 SCR claimed its first Série A silverware. However, the club`s league form slumped dramatically and it was relegated to the lower division in 2001. After five seasons in the Série B, Recife ensured promotion to the main league. In 2008 the club clutched Copa do Brasil medals. The 2009/2010 campaign saw the team drop straight back to the second division. But during the next season SCR managed to reclaim its place in the top flight.
Ilha do Retiro, the club`s stadium, has seats for more than 45,000 football fans. In 1950 it hosted the World Cup match between the USA and Chile.
In 2012 the club was relegated from the top flight but got back in 2013.
