St. Johnstone F.C. is a Scottish football club from the city of Perth. The team was founded in 1885 by the attenders of the local cricket club. In the early days the side was rotating between second and first divisions and even received a nickname a "yo-yo club".
The team enjoyed moderate success only in the second half of the 20th century. St. Johnstone reached the final of the Scottish League Cup in 1969, but lost to Celtic 1 – 0. St. Johnstone repeated that success in 1998, but that time they lost to Rangers 2 – 1.
The farthest the team progressed in the Scottish Cup was the semi-final in the season 2007/2008, when they were beaten by Rangers in penalty shoot-out. St. Johnstone claimed its first trophy in 2007. The team claimed the Scottish Challenge Cup in 2007, winning Dunfermline in the final 3–2.
The team has never clinched any Scottish Cups or the League Cups. The highest finish of the team in the top flight was the third place in the season 1970/1971.
The home stadium of the team since 1989 has been McDiarmid Park that can hold up to 10,456.The main rivals of the team are Dundee and Dundee United and the matches between them are called Tayside derbies.
