Suwon Samsung Bluewings is a South Korean football side from Suwon. The club performs in the K-League.
Suwon Samsung Bluewings came into being in 1995. Kim Ho took over first team duties at the club and guided his team to the second place in 1996. Two years later Suwon claimed its first silverware as the side clinched the league title. The Blue-White-Red Army retained the K-League title the following season. That success marked the beginning of the era of total Korean and Asian dominance.
In 2001 and 2002 Suwon Samsung Bluewings secured two back-to-back AFC Champions League titles, two Asian Super Cups and one FA Cup. In 2003 Kim Ho left the club and Cha Bum-Kun was handed charge of Suwon. Under his stewardship the team became champions in 2004.
The year of 2008 was one of the most successful in the history of the club. Blue Wings completed the league and cup double. In 2009 the team clinched the FA Cup and the Pan-Pacific Championship. In 2010 Suwon Samsung Bluewings added another FA Cup to their trophy cabinet.
The team plays in all blue. The club’s home matches are staged at the Suwon World Cup Stadium which hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
