Swindon Town F.C. is a professional football club that was established in 1879.
The team obtained professional status in 1894.
In the season 1909/1910 the side reached the FA Cup semi-finals where they lost to Newcastle United. The following season the team played in the final of the Dubonnet Cup where they defeated Barnsley 2-1 and claimed the trophy.
In the season 1910/1911 Swindon Town won the Southern League championship and the Charity Shield as they defeated in the final the Football League champions Manchester United 8-4.
After World War II the club’s fortunes changed and they were relegated to the Division Three, but in 1969 the side stunned the country winning the League Cup as they overcame Arsenal in the ultimate match 3-1. Swindon went on to clinch the 1969 Anglo-Italian League Cup.
After a relegation to the Fourth Division in the 1980s, the club fought its way back to the top division, qualifying to the Premier League in the season 1992/1993. Yet Swindon’s run in the top flight turned to be a flop as they recorded only five wins in the season and conceded 100 goals.
During the 1990s the club dropped to the Division Two, becoming the first Premier League club to face relegation to the Football League division.
In the season 2011/2012 under the helm of Paolo Di Canio the team set the record of winning ten consecutive league games and at the end of the season earned promotion to the League One.
The nicknames are The Robins, the Reds, the Town and the Moonrakers.The sides hosts home games at the County Ground with the capacity of 14,700.
