History and achievements
Sydney FC is an Australian professional football club, based in the homonymous city in New South Wales, Australia. The club represents the Australian A-League and is considered as one of the most successful teams of the continent, winning the very first A-League title in 2006.
Later, the club added another A-League title to its trophy cabinet in 2010 finishing 1st in the table prior to the knock-out stage. Sydney is also the only Australian club to win the OFC Champions League, it happened in 2006. In 2007 the club first played in the AFC Champions League and finished at the second place in its group that year. The Sydney club also won the W-League and the National Youth League, being the only A-League club having all three trophies.
The 45,500 all-seated Allianz Stadium, which is a part of the multifunctional complex in the suburb of Moore Park, is the club’s home venue. The club’s home kit color is blue. The away kit is colored in black, but still has blue elements.
From the very first years of the A-League FC Sydney was considered as a “glamour club”, being able to attract the high-profile names to its ranks. The ex-Manchester United star player Dwight Yorke, the famous actor and investor Anthony LaPaglia and the 1990 FIFA World Cup winner Pierre Littbarski are just some illustrious names that are now connected to the club. As for the first-team squad members, the play of such world-class stars as Terry Butcher (2006/2007), Juninho Paulista (2007/2008), John Aloisi (2008/2009) and the legendary Alessandro Del Piero (2012/2013) thrilled the club’s fans’ souls and helped to promote the FC Sydney brand, as well as the game of soccer itself, throughout the continent.
