Turan Tovuz is a football club from Tovuz. Founded by Vidadi Ahmadov in 1992 the team became the first professional club in Axerbaijan. Moreover, along with Neftchi Baku and Qarabağ, Turan remains one of the three teams to having participated in all the Azerbaijani Premier League seasons.
The team got off to a flying start in the Premier League. They finished third for the first two seasons in the top flight and were crowned champions in the 1993/94 campaign. However, they have never threatened to hit those same heights again. In 1997, Turan had financial troubles and gradually slumped down the league standings languishing in the mid-table mediocrity.
Turan Tovuz has established itself as a feeder club for numerous outstanding players. Such players like Nadir Nabiev, Elvin Mammadov, Javid Huseynov, Gurban Gurbanov and others had their spells at the club.
Turan players are often nicknamed the Gray Wolf. They play their home matches at Tovuz City Stadium which can hold up to 10,000 spectators.
