Umm Salal SC is a football club from the municipality of Umm Salal. The club was founded in 1996 and was initially called Al-Tadamun Club. However, when the majority of Qatari sides changed their names in 2004, Umm Salal got its current name as well.
In the early years of their existence, the team competed in the Qatari 2nd Division. Their first run into the Qatar Stars League dates back to the 2006/07 season. Having won the Emir of Qatar Cup in 2008, Umm Salal got a ticket to the 2009 AFC Champions League. It’s a tidbit that the club set up a record of being the first Qatari side to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
The team are often nicknamed the Barzan’s Falcons with reference to the Barzan Tower which acquired distinction during Ramadan. Umm Salal play their home matches at Grand Hamad Stadium which can hold up to 15,000 people.
