Vålerenga Fotball is a Norwegian football side that represents Oslo, the capital of Norway, in Tippeligaen.
On July 28, 1913 the modern Vålerenga Fotball was born. In its early years the club was a dominant force, winning four Oslo Championships. In 1965 St. Hallvard’s men were crowned Tippeligaen champions. However, in 1970 the team fell into the third tier. The club returned to the elite division in 1974.
The 1980s were the most outstanding years for Vålerenga as the club was almost unbeatable. The team delivered three league titles and one Norwegian Cup. In 1990 Vålerenga’s 14-year stay in the Premier League came to an end as the side slipped into Adeccoligaen. From 1990 to 2002 the side from Oslo experienced several relegations and promotions. In 1997 and 2002 St. Hallvard’s men lifted the Norwegian Cup.
In 2005 Vålerenga secured their fifth championship with a 2-2 draw against Odd Grenland on a nerve-shredding final day of the season. In 2008 the club claimed another Cup triumph. In the 2011/2012 Champions League campaign Vålerenga reached the third qualifying round but suffered a defeat from PAOK.
From 2005 to 2006 Tore André Flo, the former Chelsea and Siena frontman, wore the jerseys of Vålerenga.
