Vancouver Whitecaps is a football club from Vancouver, Canada, which competes in Major League Soccer.
FC Vancouver Whitecaps was founded in 1974 in Vancouver but it is extrinsic to the contemporary club except for the team’s colors and name.
It was announced on 18 March 2009 that a new football club will be created in Vancouver to play in MLS. This is the official date of the club’s foundation.
The club finished as a runner-up in the Canadian Championship when they lost to Toronto FC in the final. Empire Field was the club’s home stadium ding the first part of 2011 season but then they moved to BC Place with a capacity of 21,000.
The famous basketball player Steve Nash is one of the club’s co-owners. Paul Barber is the club’s current president.
The name Vancouver Whitecaps is originated from the geographical sights near the city of Vancouver.
The team’s colors are navy blue and white.
