Vegalta Sendai is a football club in Japan, playing in J. League Division 1. It is based in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture.
Vegalta Sendai was founded in 1988 and initially it was named Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. Soccer Club. They played in the Tohoku Regional League until 1995 and were named Brummell Sendai, then in Japan Football League and in 1999 joined the J-League.
In 2002, the team got promotion to the top division though in 2004 suffered relegation to J2. In 2009, Vegalta Sendai won J. League Division 2, thus promoting to the first division. In 2011, they finished fourth despite the tsunami and the earthquake.
The club’s stadium is Yurtec Stadium Sendai, located in Izumi-ku, Sendai, its capacity is 20, 000.
