Vissel Kobe is a football club in Japan, based in Kobe, Hyōgo Prefecture. Initially is was Kawasaki Steel Soccer Club, located in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture.
It was founded in 1966 and was a semi-professional club. In 1986, they were promoted to the Japan Soccer League Division 2 and stayed there until the foundation of J. League in 1992. In 1994, the team moved to Kobe and was renamed into Vissel Kobe, the following year Daiei, the supermarket chain, became the team’s investor, but after Great Hanshin earthquake they left the club to the city.
In 1997, the team joined the top division though since then they haven’t achieved impressive results because of financial situation as they haven’t been sponsored by investors. In 2004, Vissel Kobe was bought by Crimson Group, guided by Hiroshi Mikitani, but his attempts to make improvements failed. In 2006, the team suffered relegation to J2 though the following season they returned to the top flight. In 2012 Vissel Kobe suffered another relegation blow but managed to return one season later.
Vissel Kobe play their home matches at Home’s Stadium Kobe, its capacity is 30,132.
