Vitesse is a Dutch football club from the city Arnhem that was founded in 1892. The name of the club means “Speed” in French. In the early days of the team it gained considerable success in the League, finishing as a runner-up six times, but starting from 1930s Vitesse mostly played in the lower leagues.
The achievements in the Dutch Cup are not impressive either - three times the side contented the trophy in the finals, yet did not manage to clinch the title just once. Throughout its history the team was on the edge of bankruptcy two times – in the 1985 and in 2003, and in both moments it was successfully restructured and rescued.
In 2010 the team was bought by the Georgian businessman Merab Jordania who set the aim to make Vitesse the champions of the League.
The nicknames of the team are Vitas and FC Hollywood on the Rhine. The home arena of the club is called GelreDome stadium. It was built in 1998 and can host up to 25,000 supporters.
Most notable players of the team are Nikos Machlas,Roy Makaay, Sander Westerveld, Pierre van Hooijdonk, Danko Lazovic, Philip Cocu and Mahamadou Diarra.
