Esporte Clube Vitória is a Brazilian football club from Salvador, Bahia state. It was founded by brothers Valente in 1899 following their discovery of football while studying in England.
In their early years the team competed in amateur leagues of Brazilian football system. In 1908, they claimed their first silverware which was the Campeonato Baiano title. All in all, Vitória won 26 championships establishing themselves as the second best team in Bahia state after Esporte Clube Bahia.
In 1953, the club got into professional league. In 1993, they recorded their best result in the top flight as they finished as the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A runners-up after champions Palmeiras.
In the 2000s, Vitória found themselves on a downward spiral. They dropped down to the third tier for just two seasons. In 2010, the downturn changed into rise as the team became the runners-up in Brazilian Cup tournament and returned to the top flight again.
It’s a tidbit that Vitória club has very strong youth system renowned all over the world. Their youth teams won at least 21 world titles in between 1995 and 2000.
The team play their home matches at Barradão stadium in Salvador which can host up to 35,600 spectators.
