Waasland-Beveren is a professional football club based in the city of Beveren, Belgium. The team appeared in 1936 under the name Red Star. In 1944 they started competing in the West Flanders league and for most of its history the team played in minor leagues. In 2010 Red Star merged with KSK Beveren and the new outfit was called Waasland-Beveren. The same year Freethiel Stadion with the capacity of 12,930 became a permanent home ground of the team.
Waasland-Beveren quickly received promotion to the top flight, appearing in the Jupiler League in the season 2003/2004. During the first campaign the club finished 5th in the table.
