Western Sydney Wanderers FC is an Australian professional football club, founded in 2012. It is the second A-League club based in Sydney. The club was created in April, 2012 under the auspices of the Australian government. It replaced the Gold Coast United Football Club in the Australian top division, as the the Gold Coast club’s license had been revoked at the end of the previous season. The club’s name, as well as its emblem and colors, were chosen via online polling held between Western Sydney citizens. The club plays its home features at the Parramatta Stadium, which is a modern multifunctional arena with a 21,500 all-seated capacity.
On 17 May 2012, the former A-League executive Lyall Gorman was appointed as an Executive Chairman of the then-unnamed club. Tony Popovic, the former FC Crystal Palace first-team coach, took the club’s reigns on the same date, assigning Ante Milicic as his assistant 5 days later.
