History and achievements
RTS Widzew Łódź is a football club in Poland that was established in 1910. The name of the club refers to Łódź, the district of the city where the club originates. The home ground is called Stadion Widzewa and can hold up to 10,500 spectators. The team’s nicknames are The Red Army and Red-white-red boys.
The team won their first Polish league title in 1981. The following success came in 1982. Two more Ekstraklasa honors they won in 1996 and 1997. Overall the club’s history boasts one Polish Cup, which they won in 1985, the 1996 Polish SuperCup, in 1977 they were Polish League Cup finalists.
In the European tournaments Widzew Łódź progressed to the semifinal of the Champions League in the 1982/83 season, where they were defeated by Juventus, and in 1976 and 1982 they won the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
