PEC Zwolle is a Dutch club founded in 1910 in the city of Zwolle.
Until the 1970s the club led a largely unremarked existence competing mostly in the third tier of the Dutch football system. In 1928, they were extremely close to their first silverware in the shape of KNVB Cup but lost the final match to RHC Heemstede.
The 1970s saw the team’s downturn changing to a rise. In 1971, Zwolle won a promotion to Eerste Divisie where competed for 7 consecutive seasons. In 1977, they recorded once again a runner-up position in the national cup competition losing 0-3 to FC Twente this time. In 1978 the team enjoyed a meteoric rise breaking into the top flight and pulling off the debut season on the 8th position in the Eredivisie table, their best ever finish. Zwolle spent the whole decade of 1980s, except for the 1985/86 season, playing in the top league. The club’s fortunes changed in 1990s when Zwolle dropped to the Eerste Divisie and regularly competed in the second tier since then, except for several seasons in the top flight. In the 2012/13 season, the team found themselves in the Eredivisie but made a poor start of the campaign having won only 4 out of 22 matches played. So they are likely to slide into lower division again.
Zwolle players are often nicknamed the Bluefingers. They hold their home matches at IJsseldelta Stadion in Zwolle with the capacity of 10,000 seats.
