Afshin Ghotbi is a football manager, currently responsible for Shimizu S-Pulse. He was born in 1964 in Iran and at the age of 13 moved to the US. At the beginning of his managerial career he worked at UCLA Bruins Women’s, Global Soccer School and La Cañada High School.
From 2000 to 2002 Ghotbi was an assistant coach to Guus Hiddink, managing the Korea Republic national football team, from 2004 to 2004 he worked as an assistant coach at Samsung Bluewings and from October 2005 to July 2007 he returned to the Korea Republic national team, assisting to Dick Advocaat and then to Pim Verbeek.
In 2007, Ghotbi returned to Iran and took care of Persepolis F.C. for a season. He led the team to Iranian Pro League championship and left, becoming the manager of the Iran national team, where he worked until 2011. Under his guidance Iran failed to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. After showing poor results at the 2011 Asian Cup he was sacked and took charge of the Japanese side Shimizu S-Pulse.
