Ally McCoist is a retired player. He is a football manager from Scotland, currently guiding Rangers. He was born in 1962 in Bellshill, Scotland. He began his professional playing career at St. Johnstone in 1978 and played for the team until 1981. During that spell he featured in 57 matches and scored 22 goals. McCoist signed for English side Sunderland where he played till 1983 and in his 56 appearances he scored 8 goals. That result wasn’t an impressive and he switched to Rangers for a fee of £185,000. He spent fifteen years with the club and during those years they won ten Scottish Premier Division titles, once they won the Scottish Cup and nine Scottish League Cups. Having left Rangers, McCoist joined Kilmarnock and played for the side during three seasons and then he retired.
He represented the Scotland U18 and U 21 teams and from 1986 till 1998 he played for the senior team. In total he earned 61 caps and scored 19 goals for the Scotland national team.
Ally McCoist took up coaching career in 2004, working with Walter Smith, who headed the Scotland’s team. In January 2007, he became an assistant to Smith at Rangers and in June 2011 McCoist took charge of Rangers by himself.
