Beni enjoyed a successful playing career, representing one of the Israeli football heavyweights FC Maccabi Tel Aviv. There he spent 17 seasons, helping his team to win two Israeli championships (1977, 1979) and three Israeli Cups (1977, 1987 and 1988), before leaving the club in 1989 with 18 goals scored during that year’s campaign.
Tabak is considered as one of the club’s all time greatest players, scoring 128 goals in 412 appearances for the Maccabi side.
After hanging his boots Beni started coaching career. It happened in 1996, when he was offered to coach the Israel U-16 squad. There he managed to make an instant impact, leading his team to the bronze medals of the 1996 UEFA European U-16 Football Championship.
The next year he had a brief spell with FC Hapoel Be’er Sheva, but was forced to resign from his position the same year after his club was trashed 0-10 by Roda JC during that year’s UEFA Cup.
He needed more than two years to get his career back on track, as he took the reign at FC Ironi Kiryat Shmona in 2000, helping the team to get the Liga Artzit promotion at the end of the season.
Later he returned to his home club FC Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he was a head of youth development department.
In 2007 he finally got back to his managerial career, coaching FC Ironi Ramat HaSharon for a season. Then he spent two seasons with FC Hapoel Herzliya (2010 – 2012) and finally returned to FC Ironi Ramat HaSharon for his second spell with the club in September 2012. In the summer 2013 Tabak was released from the club.
