Berti Vogts is a former German defender turned manager. Vogts was born on 30 December 1946 in Büttgen and started his youth career at the local side VfR Büttgen at the age of seven.
In 1965 he penned a deal with Borussia Mönchengladbach and during the 1970s became one of the pivotal players helping the side to clinch five Bundesliga titles, two UEFA Cups and the German Cup. Overall he made 419 outings and netted 32 goals for the team. His record at the national side counts 96 caps, including matches at the 1974 World Cup that Germany won.
Vogts stepped onto managerial path in 1974 taking charge of West Germany’s U-21 national team. In 1990 he was appointed the manager of the national side and led the team to the runner-up place at Euro 1992 and Euro 1996 trophy. After short spells with Bayer Leverkusen and Kuwait he took charge of the national team of Scotland where he worked for two years.
In April 2008 Vogts became the manager of the national team of Azerbaijan.
