Carlos Manuel Brito Leal Queiroz was born in 1953. Currently a Portuguese football manager heads the Iran national football team.
He started his managerial career with the Portugal under-20 team and led them to winning the 1989 and 1991 Football World Youth Championship titles. Carlos Queiroz fostered such famous players as Luís Figo, Rui Costa, Fernando Couto, João Pinto, Jorge Costa and Vítor Baía.
In 1991 he was appointed the head coach of the Portugal national team but faced several loses in a row. In 1994 he headed Sporting CP. Then he moved to the USA where he coached NY/NJ MetroStars for a short period of time and left it for Japanese team Nagoya Grampus Eight.
The 1998/99 season he coached the United Arab Emirates national team, and after that he headed the South Africa national team.
During the season 2002/2003 and the period from 2004 to 2008 he assisted Alex Ferguson, coaching Manchester United.
In 2003 he was offered to take the position of the head coach in Real Madrid, where Carlos Queiroz spent two seasons and led them to the 2003 Supercopa de España but further failures ended with his sacking.
In 2004 Carlos Queiroz returned to Manchester United and went on working as an assistant coach until July 2008. He left Manchester for the Portuguese national team, where he worked till 2010 and in April 2011 he was appointed the Iran national football team manager.
