Christopher George Robin Powel is a football manager, English retired footballer. He was born in 1969 in Lambeth, England, and in 1985/86 and 1986/87 he played for the youth teams of Epsom & Ewell and Crystal Palace respectively. In the latest one Powell began his senior career but didn’t manage to become a regular player and in 1990 was loaned to Aldershot. That year he moved to Southend United, where he played until 1996 and made 248 league appearances. Then Derby County bought him for £750,000 and in 1998 he left the club for Charlton Athletic. There he stayed until 2004, made 200 appearances and then moved to West Ham United for a season. For the 2005/06 Powell returned to Charlton Athletic, then played for Watford, in 2007/08 season he had his third spell Charlton Athletic and then finally switched to Leicester City. There he began as a player and later became a player-coach. In March 2010 he retired from playing and in October became the caretaker.
Chris Powell took charge of Charlton Athletic in January 2011, signing a three-and-a-half deal. During his stay with the club he led them to Football League One title in 2011/12, was named Football League One Manager of the Month several times and in 2011/12 League Managers Association named him League One Manager of the Year. However, in the season 2013/2014 Powell struggled in the Championship and was sacked in March 2014.
