Christophe Galtier was born on August 28, 1966 in Marseille. During his career as a footballer he played in the position of defender.
Together with the France youth team he won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 1988 which is his best career achievement.
His debut as a head coach of Saint-Etienne came on December 15, 2009. It was a game against Marseille drawn by his team after withholding all of opponent’s attacks. Apart from that, Christophe helped the team to remain in the elite division after which he began to reform the club’s defence. So, he sold Yohan Benalouane and Cédric Varrault and signed Albin Ebondo, Carlos Bocanegra and Sylvain Marchal instead of them. This brought new hopes to the club. Nevertheless, the season’s first match against PSG was lost 1-3, but later the coach helped the team finish in the upper part of the standings table. It enabled the team to play in the UEFA Europa League Qualification Round; however, Christophe failed to have any considerable results with the team. Nevertheless, after a minor failure the coach remained in his position.
Apart from that, Christophe is famous for his unordinary behavior. He had an argument in the locker room with Marcelo Gallardo in the 1999/00 season, which resulted in court proceedings.
