Daniel Vasile Petrescu is a Romanian football coach and former player, born on 22 December 1967 in Bucharest, Romania.
Petrescu started his professional football career at a hometown club Steaua Bucureşti where he played as a defender for six years from 1985 till 1991. In 1991, he moved to Italy and played for such clubs as Foggia and Genoa between 1991 and 1994. Dan Petrescu spent the 1994/95 season playing for the English side Sheffield Wednesday. After that he had a successful five-year spell at the English giants Chelsea amassing 151 appearances for the club. Later on, he featured for Bradford City and Southampton.
In 2002, the renowned football player returned to Bucharest and joined Naţional Bucureşti in his last 2002/03 season as a player. His farewell match was the Romanian Cup final in which his team was defeated 0-1 by Dinamo Bucharest. Throughout 1989 and 2000, Petrescu was a regular international for the Romania national team amassing 12 goals and 95 appearances for the squad.
In 2004 Dan Petrescu started out his coaching career at Rapid Bucureşti but it really took off at a Polish side Wisła Kraków in 2006. Between 2006 and 2009, he coached Romanian side Unirea Urziceni newly promoted to Liga 1. It was to Petrescu’s immense credit that the club was a runner-up in the 2007/08 Romanian Cup and passed through the UEFA Cup qualifying in the 2008/09 campaign. In December 2009, he moved to Russia to coach Kuban Krasnodar. In 2012, Daniel Vasile Petrescu was appointed at Dynamo Moscow and worked till April 2014.
Later on Petrescu moved to Qatar to manage Al-Arabi.
