Derek John McInnes is a retired Scottish footballer. He was born in 1971 in Paisley, Scotland, and began his senior playing career at Greenock Morton in 1988 and spent there seven seasons. During that period he featured in 221 matches and scored 19 goals. In 1995, McInnes joined Rangers and stayed with the club until 2000, with a short spell at Stockport County and Toulouse. In total he made 53 appearances for Rangers.
In 2000, McInnes moved to West Bromwich Albion and during his stay with the club he featured in 88 matches and scored six goals. In July 2003, he switched to Dundee United and played for them till 2006, the following season he spent with Millwall and retired as a player after the 2007/08 season with St. Johnstone.
In November 2007, McInnes took over his managerial career at St. Johnstone. In 2009, he helped the team to get promotion to the Scottish Premier League and guided the side until 2011, whern in October he took charge of Birmingham City. A spell at Bristol City followed which ended in January 2013. After that he became the manager of Aberdeen.
