Dick Advocaat is a former Dutch football player and a manager.
Advocaat started his playing career in the club ADO Den Haag from the city of Hague, making his debut at the age of 21 in the match against GVAV in 1967. Advocaat played at the side for 7 years and made 147 appearances. In 1973 the Dutchman signed a contract with Roda, where he stayed till 1977, totaling 113 appearnces and netting a ball 2 times. Advocaat also played for such clubs as VVV-Venlo, Chicago Sting, Den Haag, Sparta Rotterdam, K. Berchem Sport.
In 1981 Dick Advocaat stepped into coaching, when he started training the amateur side DSVP. In 1984 he was surprisingly appointed an assistant manager to the national team of Netherlands, where he worked till 1987. During the early days of his career Dick Advocaat coached such clubs as HFC Haarlem, SVV, but the breakthrough happened in 1992 when he was appointed the manager of the national team of Netherlands, leading the side to the quarter-finals at the World Cup.
Success at the club level came to the Dutchman when he took the of PSV boss in 1995, winning with the team the KNVB Cup and the Eredivisie title.
In 1998 Advocaat was appointed as Rangers coach and helped the team to win the domestic treble (League, League Cup and Scottish Cup). Later the tactician headed the national team of Netherlands, the team of United Arab Emirates, South Korea. During his stay at Zenit, the side claimed their first domestic league, the Russian Super Cup and the UEFA Cup.
After short spells as the manager of Belgium and AZ, Advocaat accepted the offer to head the national team of Russia, working at the position from 2010 to 2012, when he was sacked after the team did not manage to qualify from the group at the Euro 2012.
In the summer of 2012 PSV appointed Advocaat as the head coach for the upcoming season. At the end of the spell Advocaat announced his retirement from club football. However, in October 2013 the manager took up the coaching job at AZ Alkmaar. In the summer 2014 Advocaat switched for Serbia national team.
