Diego Simeone – once a renowned footballer – is currently a football coach. When a player, he was a box-to-box midfielder and he finished his career as a footballer in 2006.
In 2009, Diego signed a contract with the Argentinean San Lorenzo from Buenos Aires and coached the team to seven defeats out of 12 games after which Simeone severed the contract and resigned.
On January 19, 2011, he joined Calcio Catania as head coach but the contract was once again broken off before the termination date.
In June 2011, Simeone led Racing Club de Avellaneda to silver medals of the Argentinean championship. On December 23, Diego left for the Spanish Atlético Madrid right after their last coach Gregorio Manzano was fired and straightaway coached the team to the UEFA Europa League title in the 2011/2012 season.
