Eric Gerets is a retired Belgian football player, currently manager of a Qatari club Lekhwiya. Gerets was playing football in amateur club AA Rekem when was noticed by the scouts from Standard de Liege and later was invited to join the team. Overall the talented defender stayed in the club for eight seasons, during which he captained the side for two years and in 1982 was awarded Belgian Golden Shoe. In 1986 Gerets was signed by the Dutch club PSV, where he became one of the most prominent players and won 5 titles of the Dutch league, 3 Dutch Cups and the UEFA European Cup.
Gerets made 86 appearances for the Belgium national team and scored 2 goals.
His coaching career started in 1992 with FC Liege. Two years later he was appointed as a head coach of Lierse and in the first season brought the team to the title of the Belgian championship. His next achievement was the first place in the League with Brugge in 1999. The following season Gerets started coaching PSV Eindhoven and impressed many by bringing the team to two consecutive victories in the Dutch championship.
In 2006 the tactician led Galatasaray to the golden honors of the Turkish Premier Super League. After short spells in Olympique de Marseille and Al-Hilal, Gerets was appointed as head coach of Morocco national team.
Since 2012 Gerets has managed a Qatari club Lekhwiya.
